Killer of Enemies
Just finished Bruchac's Killer of Enemies, this year's post-apocalyptic thriller. Known for his historical fiction, Bruchac leaps into sci-fi while keeping the historical and mythological elements of his Native American roots. The main character is Lozen, a seventeen year old Apache woman who is forced to track down and kill genetically modified monsters to protect the people of Haven - who include her hostage mother, sister and brother. She has extrasensory perception and is extremely talented at her job. She faces giant snakes, buffalo-armadillos, and vampires (of course). She has very few friends but those few are quite special, for lack of a better word. Full force action. Lots of strategy, blood and bad guys. This book will keep you reading - the bigfoot alone is worth it!
